Hybrid Identities

The Filipino identity is quite difficult to define and understand, much like my own identity wherein it took me awhile to grasp and understand. It is difficult trying to know who you are especially being influenced by multiple character traits from three different generations, ethnicities, both foreign and local cultures, multiple social groups, and a ton of conflicting sets of perspectives intertwined with one another. Having to figure out one’s identity is like looking for a four leaf clover in U.P. Diliman’s sunken garden; it is not easy, but it is not impossible either. There are times when you wonder why you still bother, but in the end, you would still persevere in the hopes that you will find and understand where you come from and how you are here today. We are all a mix of different people from different parts of the world, we all possess so many different characteristics that influence our identity but that is what makes us unique from everybody else around us.
